A Little Peanut Changes Ordinary in a Big Way

Linking up this morning with two of my favorite Friday morning reads: Coffee Company and Five Minute Fridays.

At Coffee Company, we just share our lives, as we would over a cup of coffee.  See my post here about how I'm feeling about Pumpkin Spice Lattes.  At Five Minute Fridays, we get a topic to chat about each week and share whatever our hearts say on that topic.

Today's discussion at FMF works perfectly for what I wanted to share over coffee.

Our topic?

What's Ordinary.

The reality is, my ordinary is changing every day, friends, and here's why.

I actually normally am really bothered by people who put up pictures of their ultrasound.... I mean, who wants to look at my uterus?  But.... I decided to succumb and do it anyway.  Here's our little munchkin at about 11 weeks.  (I'm now about 14 weeks.)

Ginny was very interested in the picture.... we like to pretend she understands and we tell her about her new baby sister or brother all the time.  We're pretty convinced she's going to be a great big sister.  And please excuse my messy table.  I was tired that day.

Some of the fun things friends have given us to keep reminding us of what's to come.  I prefer that over the conversations about how painful labor is going to be.

And a horrible picture of me.  The other pictures of me I looked even worse.  (Next time I'll have to make Husband take the picture and make sure I do my hair and don't look like crap.  It took me 15 minutes and I'm still unhappy with this photo.)

So as you can see, friends, my ordinary isn't ordinary.  I'm still processing the whole "I'm going to be a mom" thing.  I am excited, fearful, estatic, worried..... and a plethora of other emotions.  We're thinking of names, of how we need to change things, of how we need to "get our acts together" before baby comes, of what we need to do with our house to be baby ready, etc.... even though we have six months left.

What was ordinary before still is, but isn't.  We do our lives each day, I teach, do StuCo, spend time with family.  But I think and act on all these other things, too.

It's been crazy waiting to tell the world and people outside of our close family and friends circle, because it's all we've thought about since the first week in August..... but now it's out to the world.....  So I'm counting on all your help to share your wise Mommy Wisdom with me over the next months and years.

Anyway, my five minutes are long up.

Here's to my ordinary, whatever it actually is.

  1. Congratulations!! :) It's such a wonderful time. Being pregnant, for me, made pretty much everything special and significant. Love that your peanut will have an older "sibling". Ours did too! Our boxer was our first "kid". The human offspring was the usurper!

Enjoy this time. For all of the exhaustion, it's one of the most amazing I ever had!

  2. Congratulations! It is true that with children, the ordinary becomes extraordinary!
    Enjoy!

  3. Congratulations! The best thing to remember is "this too shall pass"...in good ways and bad. The joy of a newborn quickly passes onto the joys of toddlerhood (and the terrible twos...which too shall pass). Enjoy it all!

  4. Awww, congratulations! That is an awesome 11 week u/s btw. The early ones are my favorites, it's so amazing to me that humans start out so TINY yet so complete and intricately detailed. God is so awesome.

Motherhood changes so many things. But God designs us in such a way that we are truly transformed and renewed like we never thought we could be. You learn to roll with the tides that come and go, and "going with the flow" becomes more real than you'd ever imagined. :)

And don't worry about the painful labor stories. I'm one of those weird people that is more excited about labor than the actual pregnancy. The process is so amazingly incredible to me, and the best part? Labor and delivery is acute and not chronic. ;) Praise da Lord!

  6. Congratulations! Visiting from Company Girl Coffee. That is a precious ultrasound picture. And a good picture of you too! I always figured God gave us 9 months to prepare us. Although I always felt not ready even at the end! But it always worked out. He gave me what I needed, when I needed it. Enjoy the ride.

  10. This is beautiful. You bring me back to my first pregnancy -- the glory and wonder and beauty of it all. I have three now, and my youngest is five. I will never forget that first time, though. Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing it here.

  11. One of the best things about needing to get it all together before parenthood is that we have time to grow up with them. There is time to baby-proof the house even after the little one comes. And we continue to grow up as we nurture their growth -- that has been an unexpected blessing. I am a better person because I am a mom!!

Congratulations!! It is all so exciting!! Yay!!
